Agent: Former Tar Heel Hairston to work out for Sixers

The former North Carolina player joined the NBA D-League after being ruled ineligible to remain in college.

Former North Carolina shooting guard and Texas Legends (NBA D-League) player P.J. Hairston will work out for the Sixers on June 11, his agent, Juan Murrow, confirmed Monday night.

The franchise has seven picks for the NBA draft, scheduled for June 26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The Sixers have the third and 10th picks in the first round - and five second-round picks – Nos. 32, 39, 47, 52 and 54.

He is projected to be a late first-round pick.

Hairston averaged 21.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 26 games played for the Legends this season. He shot 35.8 percent from deep and 87 percent from the line.

The 6-6, 220-pound guard from Greensboro, N.C., played 37 games for the Tar Heels, while starting 14 his sophomore season with them. Hairston averaged 14.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals for North Carolina in the 2012-2013 season before going to the D-League after being ruled ineligible to play for UNC because of ties to promoter Haydn "Fats" Thomas, including use of a rental car. North Carolina declined in December to seek reinstatement for him.
