Philadium shut down over back taxes

The city Revenue Department says the bar owes nearly $19,000 in taxes, penalty and interest dating back to 2011.

Opening Day 2015 may come and go without the Philadium.

On Tuesday, March 31, the city shut down the popular sports bar - in a corner rowhouse not far from the sports complex at 17th Street and Packer Avenue. The candy-stripe notice on the door cites back taxes.

The city Revenue Department says the bar owes nearly $19,000 in taxes, penalty and interest dating back to 2011, when the first liens were applied.

State records show that Philadium was fined $1,200 in May 2014 for operating as a speakeasy for more than a month after its liquor license expired in October 2013. The liquor license is listed as active.

I'm attempting to reach the owners for comment.
