Samwich: Suppa's Sixth St. sandwich shop

The partners of Northern Liberties' Suppa have added a branch in Bella Vista.

Saturday, Jan. 16 (5 to 9 p.m.) is the opening day of Samwich at Sixth and Catharine Streets in Bella Vista, a smaller, second spot from chefs Georgeann Leaming and Angelo Polito of the Northern Liberties bruncherie Suppa.

Samwich (600 Catharine St., 267-457-5977), sharing the name of the sandwich section of Suppa's menu, occupies the spot that long ago was the first incarnation of Little Fish. More recently, it was Square Pie and Blue Belly BBQ. (Square Pie moved into the former Cochon location across the intersection, at Catharine and Passyunk.)

They've managed to pack an extensive menu of scratch-made grub (sandwiches, salads, mac and cheese) for the snug space, which is a single room with a kitchen and about a dozen stools lining the counter and a ledge. Takeout and delivery is through Caviar.

Sandwiches come with signature chile lime popcorn.

Days/hours will run 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily for the first few weeks as they get their bearings.
