Downingtown dog drafted for Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl
Every year since 2005, Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl has accompanied Super Bowl Sunday, bringing adorable animals into our homes alongside the usual grit and pigskin. This Sunday, though, we’ve got a vested interest, thanks to a Pennsylvania pup named Jamison.
Every year since 2005, Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl has accompanied Super Bowl Sunday, bringing adorable animals into our homes alongside the usual grit and pigskin. This Sunday, though, we've got a vested interest, thanks to a Pennsylvania pup named Jamison.
A rescue dog out of Downingtown, Jamison was recently drafted into Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl after the network contacted New Life Animal Rescue looking for cute candidates. Initially rescued when he was three weeks old, Jamison, a pit bull-terrier mix, reportedly suffered a host of issues, including seizures, worms, and cigarette burns.
"I don't care about the Super Bowl, but we'll be watching the Puppy Bowl," New Life Animal Rescue head Kim Mangione recently told Burlington County Times reporter Joe Mason. "We watch it every year, but this year we'll be watching Jamison. We know he'll do great."
And he may well have. After all, the Puppy Bowl is typically taped in October but doesn't air until Super Bowl Sunday.
This year, however, is not the first time Pennsylvania dogs have gone to the Puppy Bowl. For the past two years running, pups coming from Friends of Pep Rescue in Wayne County have made appearances. The company's owner, Kathleen Scott, voluntarily surrendered her state kennel license in 2011 after being charged with running an illegal kennel, but she disputes the charge.
Last year's event, Puppy Bowl X, also featured dogs from Philly's Operation Ava and Middletown's Spotted Dog Deaf Dalmatian Rescue.
Originally from New Jersey, Jamison currently resides in Downingtown with his new owners, Meghan and Ryan Corey. Check him out on Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl this Sunday at 3 p.m.
