An Upper Darby woman was hit by gunfire Monday evening when two men shot three bullets through her front door after they were denied entry into her home.
Around 6:30 p.m., two men knocked on the door of the house, on Radbourne Road near Long Lane, where the woman and her common-law husband live, police said.
The male resident opened the door a crack, and the two men outside asked if "Aunt Pam" was there, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said, noting that the 37-year-old female resident's name is not Pam.
When told that they had the wrong address, one of the two men pulled out a gun and the male resident slammed the door, according to police.
One of the men then shot three bullets through the door, two of which struck the female resident standing behind it, Chitwood said.
"They just opened fire on them," he said.
The woman suffered gunshot wounds to her neck and shoulder, and was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she was listed in stable condition yesterday.
The suspects, both black men in their 20s, between 5-foot-6 and 5- foot-10, jumped into a tan Toyota that they drove in reverse for about a block as they fled the scene, Chitwood said.
Police believe that the house was targeted, but they were still investigating a motive for the shooting.
"The brazenness of this in broad daylight," Chitwood said, "I mean, these guys just don't care."
