A pregnant woman has died from her injuries after being intentionally mowed down by a driver upon leaving a South Philadelphia bar early Saturday, police said yesterday.
Duane Crump, 23, was driving slowly near 22nd and Titan streets in Point Breeze about 2 a.m. when he got into a verbal confrontation with Kamilah El-Amin, 22, who had just left the 22nd Street Cafe with three of her girlfriends, police said.
Crump then ran over El-Amin and one of her friends with his car, then put it in reverse to hit them a second time, police said.
Police arrived soon after and Crump fled from his vehicle but was captured nearby. He was later charged with aggravated assault and driving under the influence of alcohol, said Homicide Capt. James Clark.
Crump later posted bail and was released, Clark said.
But El-Amin, who was in her first trimester of pregnancy, died Monday at Crozer Chester Medical Center and police are searching for Crump, who now also faces a murder charge.
El-Amin's friend, who was not identified, suffered minor injuries.
Crump, last known to live on Judson Way near 23rd and Oxford streets, North Philadelphia, and El-Amin, of 21st Street near Reed, may have known each other, but the motive for the attack is unclear, Clark said.
Police are also investigating whether the hit-and-run is related to another incident in which El-Amin reportedly was shot at, Clark said.
El-Amin's mother, Veronica Rex, told CBS 3 that Saturday's incident was the second attempt on her life.
Another woman dared Crump "to kill Kamilah, and the week before, they shot at her coming out of a club in the same neighborhood," Rex said.
Rex could not be reached by the Daily News last night.
