HARRISBURG - Would-be Pennsylvania delegates to the 2008 presidential-nominating conventions have until today to get their names on the April 22 primary ballot.
The primary results will determine most of the scores of people who will make up the state's delegations at the Democratic convention in Denver in August and the GOP gathering in St. Paul, Minn., in September.
Most of the attention is focused on the super-tight Democratic nomination race between Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois. It appears increasingly likely to stretch out into - and possibly beyond - Pennsylvania's primary, which not so long ago was considered too late in the campaign season to make a difference.
Today is the last day for candidates to file nomination petitions for offices ranging from convention delegate to the presidency. Presidential candidates need at least 2,000 voters' signatures to qualify for the ballot; delegate candidates need at least 250.
The primaries are open only to registered Republicans and Democrats. Other voters have until March 24 to sign up or switch parties.
