A morning train between A.C. and Phila. eliminated
NJ Transit is eliminating a favorite morning commuter train to Philadelphia from Atlantic City, in a cost-cutting move. Train 4610, which departs Atlantic City at 5:49 a.m. and arrives at 30th Street Station at 7:24 a.m., will be eliminated, as will the return trip, Train 4615, which leaves Philadelphia at 7:54 a.m. and arrives in Atlantic City at 9:24 a.m.

The move, effective Monday, will save more than $500,000, NJ Transit spokeswoman Penny Bassett Hackett said. The Atlantic City line has seen ridership fall by more than 20 percent in recent months, and NJ Transit is trying to reduce costs.
Train 4610 typically carries about 300 passengers a day, with about 170 getting off at Lindenwold, where they can transfer to the PATCO High Speed Line, and 132 continuing to Philadelphia, Bassett Hackett said.
The next train from Atlantic City leaves at 6:44 a.m. and carries fewer riders, about 230 daily. It arrives in Philadelphia at 8:17 a.m., which some commuters say is too late.
"We certainly understand this is an inconvenience for customers," Bassett Hackett said yesterday. She said that, in eliminating the round trip, NJ Transit was looking at the cost savings while preserving its every-other-hour frequency for trains.
Displaced commuters can take NJ Transit buses from Atlantic City to Philadelphia or to Lindenwold, where they can transfer to PATCO trains, Bassett Hackett said.
