Powerball soars; Pa., N.J. tix just miss

What a difference one lousy number makes.

What a difference one lousy number makes.

Not that a million dollars or two is anything to sniff at.

In last night's Powerball drawing, no one matched all the numbers drawn - 6, 10, 23, 41 and 45, with a Powerball of 1 - so Saturday's jackpot will be a whopping $150 million for the annuity, $95.2 million for the cash.

Ten tickets, though, came very close, missing only the Powerball.

One sold in North Carolina is worth $2 million for matching the first five numbers while having the Power Play multiplier option.

Pennsylvania and New Jersey each sold a Powerball ticket worth $1 million for matching matching the first five.

Alas, both were won far from Philadelphia - at Lizzie's Dairy, 106 Whitaker Way, Homestead, near Pittsburgh, and at Mahavir Inc., 16-26 N. Day St., Orange, near Newark, N.J.

West Virginia and New Mexico each had two such winners, while Illinois, Minnesota and Arizona has one apiece.

Mega Millions. Friday's Mega Millions jackpot will be worth $33 million for the annuity, $24 million for the cash, because no one matched all the numbers drawn Tuesday night: 6, 20, 39, 41 and 46, with a Mega Ball of 42. Two tickets, sold in California and Georgia, missed only the Mega Ball.
