Drexel student reports sexual assault by intruder

A 21-year-old Drexel student has told police she was sexually assaulted by a clever-wielding intruder she awoke to find in her off campus West Philadelphia apartment.

A 21-year-old Drexel student has told police she was sexually assaulted by a cleaver-wielding intruder she awoke to find in her off campus West Philadelphia apartment.

The woman said she was sleeping when she heard a noise about 4:40 a.m. Wednesday in her apartment on the 3400 block of Spring Garden Street in Mantua, according to police. When she walked into her living room to investigate, she saw a man holding a meat cleaver he found in her kitchen.

The man sexually assaulted the woman and then fled, she told police.

The woman said it was to dark for her to provide a detailed description of the assailant, according to police.

Also early Wednesday, a Drexel student was stabbed on campus in a dispute with five other students. Two men were arrested and the victim was treated and released from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
