Police were working Monday to find the person involved in a home invasion and slaying in Montgomery County.

Kevin Brown, 53, was shot and killed at 11 p.m. Sunday at his home on Philmont Avenue in Lower Moreland.

Officials said they do not believe the shooting was random. Brown was targeted by the killer, said First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele.

Steele declined to give a motive for the crime but said the public had no reason to worry even though the shooter remained at large.

Brown, who had three children, was in an upstairs bedroom of the twin home when he was shot, Steele said. He jumped from a second-story window and was on the front lawn when police arrived. He was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office said Brown died of a gunshot wound to the neck.

Brown's wife also escaped out the window, Steele said, and at least two children were inside the house when police arrived.

The home was still an active crime scene Monday. The second-floor bedroom window remained open. In the back of the house, a shed door had been opened, and children's bicycles rested against the back deck.

Steele declined to say how many people had entered the house during the home invasion. The shooting remains under investigation.
