Man charged in Point Breeze killing

Police on Monday identified two men who were shot to death in the city late last week, and said a suspect had been charged in one of the killings.

Tysheed Davis, 26, of Point Breeze, was charged with murder and other offenses in a shootout that resulted in the death of Jessie Williams, a 26-year-old from East Falls, police said. Police said Davis shot Williams, who had been inside his 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee on the 2000 block of Wharton Street in Point Breeze, shortly before 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Williams returned fire, striking Davis in the finger, then crashed the Jeep into two parked vehicles. Another 26-year-old man who was in the vehicle suffered minor injuries, police said. Williams was pronounced dead at 5:06 p.m. at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Davis was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition.

Authorities on Monday also identified a second man who was shot to death in a separate incident Friday. He died at Hahnemann University Hospital at 2:54 p.m. Police said Marcial, who lived in the neighborhood, was short after he got into a verbal altercation with several men who were in a dark-colored vehicle. The men then followed Marcial, shot him several times and fled. No other details about any suspects were available Monday. - Emily Babay

Oil sheen spotted near Walnut St. Bridge

Coast Guard officials said they were unable to determine the source of an oil sheen spotted in the Schuylkill at Walnut Street on Monday night, and will resume their investigation Tuesday morning.

Investigators with the Coast Guard and city Fire Department left the West Philadelphia site as darkness fell around 8:35 p.m.

"They are going back out there in the morning, when it's daylight," Coast Guard Duty Officer Thomas Peck said.

"It all could be runoff from cars from the rain the night before," he said. "Who knows? Right now, it appears to be just a rainbow sheen. There is not a lot of [oil] product on the river." The sheen was first reported to police just before 5 p.m. Fire officials responded first and waited for the Coast Guard's hazardous materials team to arrive.

"The sheen does not appear to be a hazard," Peck said. "It's not a thick sheen, but more watered down." - Suzette Parmley
