Water main break reported in University City
Authorities are responding to a 12-inch water main break in University City Tuesday night, authorities said.
A 12-inch water main break in University City Tuesday night has shut down traffic on one street, and limited traffic on one the city's main arteries, authorities said.
The break, which was first reported just before 5 p.m. at 33rd and Market Streets, forced authorities to shut down traffic heading northbound on 33rd Street from Chestnut Street, and closed one lane on the eastbound lanes of Market Street, according to John Digiulio, a Philadelphia Water Department spokesman.
These closures will continue throughout the night and most likely into the early morning, he added.
Nearby Drexel University did not report any issues, Digiulio said.
Digiulio said the break has caused mostly street damage.
