Music producer and developer Kenny Gamble and his wife, Faatimah, will be honored for their civic accomplishments by the African American Museum in Philadelphia tonight during its Third Annual Heritage Gala.
The event, which will be held at the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia on South Christopher Columbus Boulevard in Penn's Landing, will be hosted by Philadelphia native Bill Cosby. It is sold out.
The annual gala serves as a fund-raiser for the museum, which was founded in 1976 "to preserve, interpret and exhibit the heritage of African Americans."
In its website, http://www.aampmuseum.org/home/, the museum says it "is committed to telling the story of African Americans in all its permutations: family life, the Civil Rights movement, arts and entertainment, sports, medicine, architecture, politics, religion, law and technology. The AAMP currently houses four galleries and an auditorium, each of which offer exhibitions anchored by one of our three dominant themes: the African Diaspora, the Philadelphia Story, and the Contemporary Narrative."
The museum is located at 701 Arch St. in Center City.
