Nutter makes pick for DHS head

Mayor Nutter this morning named Anne Marie Ambrose, a top official with the state Department of Public Welfare, as the city's new commissioner of the Department of Human Services.

Mayor Nutter this morning named Anne Marie Ambrose, a top official with the state Department of Public Welfare, as the city's new commissioner of the Department of Human Services.

She will succeed Arthur Evans, who had been acting commissioner and will now return to his job as director of the Department of Behaviorial Health.

Nutter praised Ambrose's talent and integrity, and said she was selected after a nationwide search in which 19 candidates were interviewed, eight of them personally by Nutter.

Ambrose will begin her new job June 23, after leaving her position as director of Child Welfare at Juvenile Justice Services at the state welfare department.
