A deliberately set fire in the city's Kensington section early this morning killed a 58-year-old woman and critically injured another resident, police said.

The blaze broke out just before 1 a.m. on the 2100 block of Cambria Street. Police arrived to find Loretta Cannon on the pavement suffering from severe burns and the home engulfed in flames. Firefighters located a 52-year-old man inside with burns all over his body, police said.

Cannon was taken to Temple University Hospital where she was pronounced dead of her injuries at 1:29 p.m. The male victim remained in critical condition this morning at Temple.

Officials have ruled Cannon's death a homicide and determined the cause of the blaze was arson.

Police this morning were questioning a third resident of the home. No one has been charged yet in Cannon's death, police said.

An investigation is continuing.
