At approximately 9:23 a.m., the sun appeared over South Jersey among several blue intervals among the otherwise gray mass of sky.
Officially, the National Weather Service did not dispute the sun sighting.
"There is some thinning of the clouds, so it's feasible that it did come out for a brief while," said meteorolgist Valerie Meola in the Mount Holly office.
The appearance, however, turned out to be a mere cameo, and its presence will continue to be scarce the rest of the week, according to the meteorologists.
The National Weather Service advises that moderate to heavy rains are possible tonight, perhaps enough to top off rain-fattened streams and cause some flooding.
"We're keeping an eye on it," Meola said. A flood watch is posted as close by as Lancaster County.
Showers are possible tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, and it's supposed to remain mostly cloudy through the period.
