Daytime I-76 cleanup could bog traffic tomorrow, next week
The cleanup of debris from Sunday's storm will continue tomorrow and next week on the eastbound Schuylkill Expressway (I-76).
The cleanup of debris from Sunday's storm will continue tomorrow and next week on the eastbound Schuylkill Expressway (I-76).
Tomorrow, from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Lower Merion Township, the closure of one lane could cause backups and delays, PennDOT warns.
Next week, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, the eastbound right shoulder will be closed between the Conshohocken and Belmont Avenue interchanges.
Tomorrow's reduction from two lanes to one will begin about two miles east of the Conshohocken Exit (331B).
Dirt and other debris will be removed from behind a concrete barrier that runs along the expressway.
"Motorists are advised to allow additional time for travel on eastbound I-76 or use an alternate route, such as Interstate 476 or Route 23," the agency advises.
Next week's work is to clear drainage gaps beneath the barriers.
Both lanes will be open, and speed limits won't be reduced, but drivers often slow down out of curiosity or caution, so again, drivers should allow extra time, said PennDOT spokesman Eugene Blaum.
Further inclement weather could alter the schedule.
