Temple faculty approves four-year contract

Temple University faculty members have approved a tentative four-year contract reached with the university last month.

Temple University faculty members have approved a tentative four-year contract reached with the university last month.

About 95 percent of those voting Monday approved the pact, union officials said. Temple's board of trustees is scheduled to vote on it next week.

Under the contract, the 1,280 employees in the Temple Association of University Professionals would receive a combination of base increases and bonuses and be eligible for merit increases.

The employees would get no base increase or bonus in the first year, which is retroactive to October 2008, but would be eligible for a 1 percent merit pool. In each of the subsequent years, they would receive a 2 percent base increase, be eligible for a 1 percent merit pool, and get a 0.75 percent bonus. The bonus would be in effect only if Temple's state appropriations are at least $175 million, including federal stimulus funds, in that year.
