A crash involving a tractor-trailer and a van closed the southbound lanes of the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Quakertown for four hours this morning.

A crash involving a tractor-trailer and a van closed the southbound lanes of the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Quakertown for four hours this morning.

At least two people were injured in the crash, but their conditions are not known.

The crash occurred about 6:30 a.m. about 7 miles south of the Quakertown Exit (Interchange 44), prompting officials to detour all southbound traffic there.

Vehicles caught between the crash and the exit backed up for miles before being allowed to funnel single file on the highway shoulder past the accident scene.

The Turnpike Authority said the roadway reopened at 10:30 a.m.

State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
