Wanted for slaying wrong man in revenge killing

Chester police are looking for a man who allegedly shot an innocent victim in a revenge killing.

Tyreek Wilson, 25, of Chester, is wanted in the murder of Dwayne Smith, and should be considered armed and dangerous, according to police.

On Wednesday at 8:20 a.m., police responded to the 1000 block of Hyatt Street for shots fired. They found Dwayne Smith, 34, lying on the street near his home with fatal gunshot wounds to the head.

Police said Smith who was in the process of moving to another location still had items in the Hyatt Street address. Witnesses told police Wilson came up behind Smith and shot him several times.

Wilson believed Smith killed his close friend, Marvin Fitzgerald, according to police. On Oct. 3, Fitzgerald was shot dead in the 1000 block of McDowell Street. Police believe the shooting may have stemmed from a fist fight earlier in the day.

According to a police document, a witness saw Wilson waiting near the Hyatt Street address prior to the day of Smith's murder. Wilson told the witness he was "waiting on the bull Wayne to get him for killing Fitzgerald."

The witness saw Wilson again after Smith was murdered. Wilson told the witness "he took care of it." and "I made sure my young boy didn't die alone," according to police documents.

Police said other witnesses have ruled out Smith in the killing of Fitzgerald and identified another unidentified suspect.
