A man shot and killed in broad daylight Tuesday in East Mount Airy was identified today as 36-year-old Renford Levy, of Northeast Philadelphia.
The victim's relatives and friends said Levy, a father of seven, moved to the United States from Jamaica 20 years ago and worked as a mechanic.
He was shot about 3 p.m. in parking lot of a Jamaican restaurant on the 7400 block of Limekiln Pike, across the street from a church and an apartment building, in the Cedarbook neighborhood. police said.
Wounded in the face, neck, chest, back, both arms and one leg, Levy, of the 7100 block of Dungan Road in Burholme, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Police said judging from the amount of times Levy was shot at point-blank range, it was apparent he was the shooter's intended target.
But as of this morning, investigators have not disclosed why Levy may have been targeted.
Police found 11 .45-caliber shell casings in the parking lot, and towed all of the cars that were parked there to dust them for fingerprints, Chief Inspector Scott Small said at the scene Tuesday.
The lot is known to police and neighbors as an area where people typically loiter during the day.
Police said two men were seen fleeing the area, possibly in a white Chevrolet.
