State police say 'ticket frenzy' e-mail is bogus
HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania State Police say an e-mail warning motorists of a "30-day speeding-ticket frenzy" is bogus.
Cpl. Lynette Quinn, a state police spokeswoman, said the e-mail being distributed in Pennsylvania is a hoax.
The e-mail claims the state police hope to generate about $9 million in fines during a 30-day ticket-writing blitz that supposedly began Friday.
Quinn said money from speeding tickets does not directly benefit the state police anyway, but instead goes into the state's general fund.
She said similar hoaxes about the $9 million ticket blitz have surfaced and been debunked recently by police in Hawaii, Kentucky, Michigan and Oklahoma.
