Driver in crash that hurt 2 officers charged with DUI
The driver involved in an accident that injured two Philadelphia police officers Tuesday night has been charged with driving under the influence and related offenses.
Jose Serrano, 19, of the 2800 block of North Fairhill Street, allegedly ran a red light at Eighth and Butler Streets and fled when police attempted to pull him over.
He collided with a second police cruiser at the intersection of Sixth and Cambria Streets in the city's Fairhill section, sending the two officers to Temple University Hospital with head, neck and back injuries. The two officers were treated and released, according to police.
Serrano left his Mazda minivan after the accident and ran from the scene, police said. He was apprehended in the area and arrested. Bail was set at $10,000, and a preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 27.
