Chester City police are looking for a man who allegedly shot and killed a man in what he considered a revenge killing, although the victim was innocent.
Tyreek Wilson, 25, of Chester, is wanted in the murder of Dwayne Smith, and should be considered armed and dangerous, according to police.
At 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, police went to the 1000 block of Hyatt Street on a report of gunshots. They found Smith, 34, in the street near his home with fatal gunshot wounds to the head.
Police said Smith was moving but still had items at the Hyatt Street address. Witnesses said Wilson came up behind Smith and shot him several times.
Wilson believed Smith killed his close friend Marvin Fitzgerald, according to police. On Oct. 3, Fitzgerald was killed in the 1000 block of McDowell Street. Police believe the shooting may have stemmed from a fistfight earlier in the day.
According to a police document, a witness saw Wilson waiting near the Hyatt Street address prior to the day of Smith's death. Wilson told the witness he was "waiting . . . to get him for killing Fitzgerald."
The witness saw Wilson again after Smith was killed. Wilson told the witness "he took care of it" and "I made sure my young boy didn't die alone," according to police documents.
Police said other witnesses have ruled out Smith in the killing of Fitzgerald and identified another, unidentified person.
