A 23-year-old man has been charged with fatally shooting another man in Camden last month.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said Friday that Jermaine Burnett is facing a charge of first-degree murder in the May 28 slaying of Britton Knox.

Knox, 28, of Camden, was shot on the 1300 block of Browning Street shortly before 2:30 p.m., one of a recent string of deadly daytime shootings. He was pronounced dead about a half-hour later at Cooper University Hospital.

Prosecutors said Burnett was served with the murder charge while in custody in state prison for violating parole in an unlawful-use-of-handgun case. He has been in custody for the parole violation since May 31, according to state Department of Corrections records.

Burnett is scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon in the murder case.
