A controversy over state funding for Temple University was resolved yesterday.

State Rep. John Taylor (R., Phila.) and other representatives had held up $175 million to protest the university health system's closure of Northeastern Hospital in June. But the money proposed for Temple now is being moved along by the legislature. However, the funding won't be final until the state budget passes.

Recently, Temple administrators "put forth a lot of effort" to "work with elected officials in the community about how to utilize the 18-acre property," Taylor said.

Temple officials declined to comment on the discussions. The university had warned of a $5,000 tuition increase if the funding was cut. - Susan Snyder
