When a couple buy a home with their children’s education in mind and then become empty nesters, their next move is often to something smaller.

When Eunice and Michael Clinton bought their split-level home in Ambler in 2009, it was partly because she liked the exterior — the pond in the back and the entrance with the stone steps.

“It made a nice first impression and it’s roomy inside,” Michael said.

But a big factor was the ability to keep their son in the Wissahickon School District, where they had first settled in a rental in Blue Bell because it was near Michael’s work as a history professor.

Their son is now long out of the house, though, and they are looking for a somewhat larger home in the West Chester area, near Eunice’s work as a professor of nursing. She hopes for a larger study and work area in their new home.

“It’s my turn,” she said with a laugh.

The house has hardwood floors throughout and a family room that gets abundant natural light.

The living room has a wood-burning fireplace made of Portuguese tile, part of series of major renovations to the house in 2015.

The kitchen has white Shaker-style cabinets, granite countertops, a granite-top center island, stainless steel appliances, and two sinks.

The upper level has the primary bedroom with an en suite bathroom with a stall shower; two additional bedrooms; and a full bathroom.

The lower level has the family room and an additional bedroom and bath with access to the outside that can easily be used as a study. It also has a wood-burning fireplace.

There is a large backyard deck and a two-car garage accessible from the lower level, and the tiled basement has the laundry area and ample storage space.

The house was built in 1957 and the square footage is 2,900.

It is listed by Zach Behr of Keller Williams Blue Bell for $600,000.
