A gift for Mom: Organic herbal teas made in Point Breeze
Blushing Wren teas are made with organic ingredients and come in 11 blends.
Megan Bacle, a former event planner for high-end restaurants, was frustrated by the synthetic flavorings used in many teas. So Bacle, a mother of three, began making the tea for which she was looking.
She started Blushing Wren Teas & Botanicals out of her Point Breeze home. Her organic products combine local botanical ingredients with fair-trade tea leaves from all over the world. Her loose teas are available online and at a handful of local stores.
“I want to prove that you can support local farms, cut out all of the test-tube flavorings, and be left with an exquisite, nutritive, flavorful tea,” Bacle said.
Launched in October, Blushing Wren sells 11 blends, such as one made with local lemon verbena grapefruit peel, lemongrass, and ginger, and an oolong tea made with rose petals and leaves sourced from India’s Darjeerling district. — Allison Steele
