These Main Line suburbs are some of the best places to live in the country, according to Niche
Ardmore, Devon, Penn Wayne, and Chesterbrook all appear in the top 15 of Niche's 2026 Best Places to Live list.

Four of the top 12 places to live in the United States are located in Philadelphia’s Main Line suburbs, according to Niche’s 2026 Best Places to Live in America rankings.
Ardmore, Devon, and Penn Wynne came in seventh, eight, and ninth. Meanwhile Chesterbrook, which came in third the last two years, dropped to 12th. Also near the top of the list is Swarthmore at no. 28, and fellow Main Line suburb, Paoli, at no. 50.
Pennsylvania appeared in the top 15 more than any other state, narrowly beating California and Georgia. The rankings, which include neighborhoods, towns, cities, and suburbs are based on Niche resident reviews and public data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau.
In determining the rankings, Niche considers several factors, including cost of living, job opportunities, school quality, and crime rates.
Niche praised the Main Line suburbs for their accessibility, livability, and top-rated public schools, while some resident reviews mentioned the communities’ higher cost of living for the region.
For instance, the average home value in all four towns is over $500,000, which is almost double Philadelphia’s average home value.
In Devon, the average home value is nearly $1 million.
Devon also ranked as the second best suburb to raise a family in the U.S., a few spots above Chesterbrook and Penny Wynne, which came in fourth and fifth.
The city of Philadelphia also appeared on Niche’s 2026 Best Places to Live in America list, coming in at no. 9,780 out of 18,104.
