A 9-year-boy was found dead in a pond in Bucks County on Monday, police said.

Police were called to a pond at Vaux and Hickory Roads in New Britain Borough just before 6 p.m. on Monday after reports of a missing child, according to a statement from the Central Bucks County Regional Police Department.

Officers found a child’s bike next to a fishing pole but could not find the child, officials said.

A dive team from the Point Pleasant Fire Department then arrived and recovered the boy’s body “within a few minutes,” police said.

The child was taken to Doylestown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 7 p.m. Police did not release his name on Monday.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this traumatic time,” the police department’s statement continued.

The case remains under investigation, and officials did not release the boy’s cause of death. The Central Bucks Regional Police Department is asking anyone who has information or saw the young boy at the pond to contact Capt. Robert Milligan at 215-345-4143.
