Former Controller Saidel to endorse Taubenberger for Council

We just got this release:

FORMER CITY CONTROLLER JONATHAN A. SAIDEL TO ENDORSE AL TAUBENBERGER FOR CITY COUNCIL AT-LARGE

PHILADELPHIA September 21, 2011—Former Philadelphia City Controller Jonathan A. Saidel will endorse Republican business leader Al Taubenberger for Philadelphia City Council at-large on Thursday, September 22, 2011, 2 p.m., at The Dining Car, 8826 Frankford Ave.

Mr. Saidel was one of Philadelphia's most effective City Controllers for 16 years for 1990 to 2005, where he earned national praise for fiscal discipline and innovative growth ideas. Today, he works at the law offices of Cohen, Placitella & Roth.

"There is no question as to what the number one priority is for Philadelphia voters," said Mr. Saidel. "Jobs are first, second and third on everyone's list. And, frankly, in this election there is no better advocate for small businesses and the jobs they create than Al Taubenberger.

"Al Taubenberger belongs in City Council," said Mr. Saidel.

Mr. Taubenberger, a resident of Northeast Philadelphia, has been president of the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce since 1991. He has worked closely with Mr. Saidel on a number of important projects that have paid dividends for city residents.

"I have always had the utmost respect and admiration for Jonathan Saidel, and his endorsement means a great deal to me," Mr. Taubenberger said. "Just as important, though, is his friendship, advice and counsel."

Al Taubenberger has made his life all about Philadelphia. Born and raised in the Northeast and the son of German immigrants, he is a graduate of both Northeast High School and Pennsylvania State University. Mr. Taubenberger has always made a point to give back to his community. He served on the staff of the Republican caucus in City Council 1988 to 1992 for Council members W. Thacher Longstreth, Joan Specter, Jack Kelly and Brian O'Neill.

Mr. Taubenberger is currently president of the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, a private organization of over 900 members. He is the proud father of four children and resides in the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia with his wife, Joanne.
