Keystone Mini-Golf and Arcade opens its doors this Friday

Something Philadelphia was certainly lacking will now liven up the neighborhood of Olde Kensington.

Keystone Mini-Golf and Arcade (161 Cecil B. Moore Ave.) held a soft opening for its kitschy new, indoor BYOB fun spot last Friday, but this weekend they call it official with their grand opening.

Occupying what previously was a textile and dye warehouse, the fun course was opened in mid-June by two Bucks County natives, Bill Cannon and Drew Ferry. "We kind of winged it," Ferry admits. The idea sparked while visiting a local driving range, where they spotted a "crappy mini-golf course." The next day they went hunting for a space and a week later they signed a lease.

The initial idea was to make it a Philadelphia landmark-themed 9-hole (but this already exists in Franklin Square). They instead went with a '50s Americana look. "We didn't want anything to look too new or flat or flashy." Drew enlisted the help of his retired father, Skip, to build the holes' designs. But they don't plan to keep this course looking the same. Plans to change the appearance up are definite in order to "keep it fresh." Cannon and Ferry sourced a number of the course's unique fiberglass props from vintage stores and flea markets. The old-school arcade games were both gifted and found. There's even a Philadelphia virtual trivia game that challenges your local knowledge prior to 1985.

After some finishing touches are checked off, doors officially open to the public this Friday. Get there early for complimentary adult beverages, and Butter Food Truck will be on hand serving food from 7 pm-1 am. In the future, they plan to have a rotating list of food vendors on the weekends and frequent appearances by their friends at Shifty's Tacos.

Keystone Mini-Golf is open Thursdays from 3 p.m.-12 a.m., Fridays 3 p.m.-2 a.m., Saturdays 11 a.m.-2 a.m., Sundays 11 a.m.-10 p.m. They plan to host everything from birthday parties to corporate events. You can also visit them on the web.
