Now that's a lot of poultry.
The crew at 102.9 WMGK collected nearly 10,000 turkeys for area families in need as part of its annual John DeBella Turkey Drop, which took place earlier this week.
The final number, 9,869, topped last year's total of donated birds that maxed out at just over 9,400. Poultry and proceeds from the event benefited Cityteam Philadelphia, an organization that helps provide meals and services to less fortunate folks throughout the Philadelphia area.
WMGK morning host John DeBella set up shop outside the Kimmel Center on Tuesday, Nov. 22, to accept donations for the fifteenth annual event, while staff members did the same at eight other locations in the area. The day's largest donations came from Parx Casino, which donated $10,000 worth of turkeys, and Giant Food Stores, which put up $7,500 in birds, according to a release.
While turkey donations for the DeBella Turkey Drop may be over, interested folks can still contribute to the Cityteam Philadelphia cause. Go here to make a monetary donation on behalf of the radio station.
