An evening with Buzz Bissinger May 10 in Philly

Buzz Bissinger, the Pulitzer-winning author of Friday Night Lights, will speak about his books May 10 in Philadelphia

The incomparable Buzz Bissinger, Pulitzer-winning author of Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream, will make an appearance May 10 in Philadelphia.

Bissinger will chat about his books, the ins and outs of writing and the art of being Buzz Bissinger at the intimate soiree, a fundraising event for Spells Writing Lab, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on May 10 at LOEWS Philadelphia Hotel, 1200 Market Street in Center City.

Bissinger, 57, who began his journalism career as an undergrad as sports editor of Penn's student-run newspaper, The Daily Pennsylvanian, has a new memoir due May 15 titled Father's Day: A Journey into the Mind and Heart of My Extraordinary Son.

The evening also will include a silent auction, bookmark signing, and dessert reception.

This is a fundraising event for non-profit Philly region org Spells Writing Lab, which, a press release says, "aims to develop the creative and expository writing skills of school-age children through free, fun, and imaginative writing programs and teacher development opportunities.   Spells believes that literacy is a cornerstone for future success, and that personalized attention and unconventional learning opportunities can inspire students to greater triumphs, both in the classroom and in life."
