Double teaming on ‘The Voice’
Two songs each for the final six
If nothing else, you have to give "The Voice" credit for the sheer variety of music it delivers. Take Monday night. On what other singing contest are you likely to hear songs by artists as diverse as Whitesnake, Rascal Flatts, Katrina and the Waves and Avril Lavigne?
The format lent itself to experimentation. With six finalists evenly split among coaches Blake, Adam and Cee Lo, each was called upon to sing two songs – one of their choosing and one selected by their pro mentor.
So you got some interesting and unforeseen results, like Nicholas David doing an emotional "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and Terry McDermott rocking out The Faces' "Stay with Me".
Another highlight was Trevin Hunte's fiery venture into the "Dreamgirls" catalogue. How's this for a showstopper?
If I were a gambling man, I'd wager that Melanie Martinez has sung her last. In fact both of Adam Levine's singers (Amanda Brown being the other) look vulnerable to me.
