Maryland athlete commits to Temple for football
Avery Williams, a senior at Archbishop Curley High School (Md.), gave an oral commitment Saturday night to play football at Temple.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pounder received a scholarship offer while officially visiting the North Broad Street campus this past weekend. He chose the Owls over scholarships from Football Championship Subdivision programs Stony Brook and Morgan State.
"I'm telling you, I just loved it up there," Williams told MDHigh.com about his official visit. "I'm an East Baltimore guy - an inner-city guy - and Philly is just like it. It felt like home. Everyone up there is just real if you get what I mean. I can't wait to go to school there."
He told MDHigh.com the Owls are recruiting him to play cornerback or safety. At Curley, Williams played both positions along with linebacker and running back.
