Big East Power Rankings: Week 10
Temple will have a tough time winning another Big East game.
The Owls (3-4, 2-2 Big East) just lack a defense needed to beat their remaining conference foes – Louisville, Cincinnati and Syracuse. But Temple did defeat conference cellar dwellers Connecticut and South Florida.
That's why despite a 30-point setback to Pittsburgh, the Owls only dropped one place to sixth in my updated Big East Power Rankings.
Here's a look at my power rankings:
1. LOUISVILLE (8-0, 3-0)
Skinny: The 12th-ranked Cardinals will improve to 4-0 in Big East play for the first time in school history with an expected victory over Temple. Louisville is just one of 11 undefeated Football Bowl Subdivision programs.
Previous ranking: 2
Up next: vs. Temple at noon Saturday
2. RUTGERS (7-1, 4-0)
Skinny: The Scarlet Knights dropped out of the Top 25 rankings after committing seven turnovers in a 35-23 setback to Kent State. Rutgers gained 409 yards in that setback.
Previous ranking: 1
Up next: vs. Army on Nov. 10
3. CINCINNATI (5-2, 1-1)
Skinny: The Bearcats lost their second consecutive game after blowing a 10-point, fourth-quarter lead to Louisville. Cincinnati still boasts the conference's No.1 scoring offense (34.1 points per game).
Previous ranking: 3
Up next: vs. Syracuse at noon Saturday
4. SYRACUSE (4-4, 3-1)
Skinny: The Orange overcame a 20-point hole to post a victory over South Florida on Saturday. Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib, a Malvern Prep graduate, produced his fifth 300-yard passing performance of the season.
Previous ranking: 4
Up next: at Cincinnati at noon Saturday
5. PITTSBURGH (4-4, 1-3)
Skinny: The Panthers picked up their first conference win of the season with a 30-point victory over the Owls. However, they can't celebrate for too long. Pitts travels to fourth-ranked Notre Dame on Saturday.
Previous ranking: 6
Up next: at Notre Dame 3:30 p.m. Saturday
6. TEMPLE (3-4, 2-2)
Skinny: The Owls have been manhandled in consecutive conference losses to Rutgers and Pitt. Unfortunately things won't get any easier with upcoming games against Louisville and Cincinnati.
Previous ranking: 5
Up next: at Louisville at noon Saturday
7. CONNECTICUT (3-5, 0-3)
Skinny: The Huskies are coming off a much-needed bye week. Connecticut was held scoreless in the second half of its previous three contests.
Previous ranking: 7
Up next: at South Florida at 7 p.m. Saturday
8. SOUTH FLORIDA (2-6, 0-4)
Skinny: After Saturday's 37-36 defeat to Syracuse, the Bulls have lost their last two games by a combined three games. South Florida is riding its first six-game losing streak in the program's history.
Previous ranking: 8
Up next: vs. Connecticut at 7 p.m. Saturday
