Girls' lacrosse: Shawnee stuns Moorestown in S.J. Group 3 tournament

Kristin Kocher scored a goal with 12.6 seconds to play to lift Shawnee to a dramatic 7-6 victory over Moorestown Monday in the championship game of the South Jersey Group 3 girls' lacrosse tournament.

Moorestown (22-1) had won 228 games in a row against New Jersey opponents, dating to 1999. The Quakers, who are ranked No. 3 in the nation by Laxpower, also had won the last 10 Tournament of Champions titles.

Moorestown also had eliminated Shawnee in the last 12 tournaments.

Shawnee junior goalie Alex Zaugra made 21 saves. The Renegades (20-1) were behind 5-1 early in the second half but rallied with five unanswered goals.

Kristen Mutch scored two goals in that surge for Shawnee.

Moorestown tied the score at 6-6 on Stephanie Toy's goal with 2:04 on the clock.

Shawnee advances to the Group 3 state title game Thursday at Ridge.
