HERSHEY, Pa. – Martin Luther King was looking to turn the tables on Roman Catholic in the PIAA Class AAAA state final after suffering a one-point defeat to the Catholic League champions three weeks earlier in the District 12 final.
But the Cahillites would have none of it, as they handled the Cougars, 62-45, Saturday night at the Giant Center to claim the program's first state crown.
Senior wing guard Gemil Holbrook paced Roman (29-2) with 18 points, including three three-pointers. Junior point guard Tony Carr added 14 points and sophomore guard D'Andre Vilmar had 10.
For King (23-9), senior guards Sammy Foreman and Tyheem Harmon registered 20 and 10 points, respectively.
Roman took control with a 15-2 run that began with Vilmar's inside bucket early in the third quarter.
