Samir Doughty commits to St. John's

St John's landed its second Public League basketball star in three years as Samir Doughty orally committed to the program on Tuesday morning.

The 6-foot-3 guard from Math, Civics and Sciences will make it official when he signs his letter of intent on Wednesday at his Center City school. He led the Mighty Elephants with 16.76 points per game last season, his first after transferring from shuttered Communications Tech. He was voted to last season's Public League first-team.

Doughty chose the Red Storm over La Salle, Penn State, George Mason, Seton Hall, and others. He split his AAU career between Philly Pride and Team Philly. Philly Pride is the same organization that featured Vaux's Rysheed Jordan, who is currently a sophomore for St. John's.
