A 25-ton baby humpback whale was found dead on a sandbar near Long Beach Island this week.

The whale was discovered Wednesday on the ocean side of Little Egg Inlet off Holgate, NJ.com reported.

Marine Mammal Stranding Center technicians were out gathering information on the humpback Friday and making plans to remove the carcass, according to their Facebook page.

On Dec. 29,  a rare 800-pound, 15-foot Blainville's beaked whale was discovered washed up at Island Beach State Park. It was only the second time in the last 40 years that the center had encountered this species of whale. The last time was in Monmouth County in 1989.
