If you're a listener of the Bleeding Green Nation Radio podcast, you've probably been wondering about the "big announcement" host John Barchard has repeatedly teased.

Well, the news is out: Sportsradio 94.1 WIP has hired Barchard as part of the station's on-air staff, and he's bringing his BGN team with him for a new two-hour show every Saturday during Eagles season.

"Being a part of WIP gives us an opportunity to increase our reach and audience," said Barchard, who will host the show along with guest spots by Bleeding Green Nation's site manager and editor-in-chief Brandon Gowton, and BGN-related writers. There is no official launch date, but it's expected the show will air during the Eagles season on Saturdays from 4 to 6 p.m., and move to 6 to 8 p.m. once the Phillies' season is over.

"We are very excited to be teaming up with WIP," said Gowton. "This partnership marks a huge achievement in the history of our show."

In addition to BGN Radio, WIP will also utilize Barchard on-air in other spots that haven't completely been ironed out.

"Younger people used to hate sports radio because a new generation needs to come in," Barchard said. "Hopefully we can be part of that."

After just three years, the BGN Radio podcast is averaging about 15,000 downloads per episode. Their highest-rated show, recorded after Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford asked to be traded to another team, was downloaded over 35,000 times.

"We wanted to stay at The Fanatic, and were trying to make that work out," Barchard said. "In the end, Spike Eskin just made us a fantastic offer they couldn't match."
