An "emotional person with a hatchet" led police in Lancaster County on a chase through an apartment building's ventilation ducts on Thursday morning before he was apprehended, PennLive reports.

It took police three hours to catch the 22-year-old man, who first barricaded himself in his bedroom at a West Lampeter Township apartment complex before he smashed a window, climbed onto the roof, then wiggled his way into a ventilation shaft, according to the story.
Firefighters were called in to cut a hole in the shaft so officers could try to catch the man. But, he climbed back up the shaft and then kicked out a closet wall to get into another apartment. He was finally caught when he climbed back up the shaft where police were waiting.
The man, who was not immediately charged, was taken to Lancaster General Hospital for evaluation, according to the story.
