Penn State fans take over empty Rutgers student section
Penn State and Rutgers are going in opposite directions.
The Nittany Lions have won seven straight games, including last night's 39-0 drubbing of the Scarlet Knights at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway, N.J. As the Inquirer's Joe Juliano writes, the win keeps Penn State's hopes alive for a birth in the Big Ten championship in two weeks.
For Rutgers, the loss was their eighth straight, and the fourth shutout in a season that has seen them win just two games. Rutgers has lost games against Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and now Penn State by a combined score of 224-0.
By some estimates, 30 percent of the announced crowd of 51,366 were Penn State fans. Nowhere was the lack of enthusiasm among Rutgers fans evident than in the team's student section, which was empty until the fourth quarter until fans of the Nittany Lions took it over.
