Man struck and killed by Amtrak train in Northeast Philadelphia

A 61-year-old man was fatally hit by a train Friday morning near the Torresdale Station in Northeast Philadelphia, Amtrak officials said.

The incident happened shortly before 8 a.m. when an Acela Express heading to New York and Boston struck the person. The man jumped in front of the train in an apparent suicide, police said.

There were 30 passengers aboard the train at the time. No injuries to passengers or crew were reported.

The fatality temporarily disrupted Amtrak service as well as SEPTA Regional Rail's Trenton Line.
