SEPTA bus driver taken to hospital after men throw liquid on her

Two men threw cup fulls of two different substances at a SEPTA bus driver when she opened the vehicle's doors at a Crescentville bus stop Monday morning, police said.

The Route K driver, who is not believed to have had any prior contact with the men, was not injured but was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center as a precaution, said SEPTA Police Chief Thomas Nestel.

When the bus driver opened her bus doors at Adams Avenue near Rising Sun around 6:15 a.m., one of the men threw a cup full of powder at the woman and the other threw a cup of an off-white liquid at her before both fled the scene, Nestel said.

Both substances tested negative for any hazardous agents and were determined not to be health risks, Nestel said. The powder may have been some type of detergent, police said.

Nestel said the suspects were most likely captured on the bus' surveillance video, which police will upload and review as part of their investigation.
