FOOTBALL: Archbishop Wood crushes Allentown Central Catholic, 70-14, in Class AAA state semifinal.

Desmon and Brandon Peoples combined for 318 rushing yards and five touchdowns as Archbishop Wood crushed Allentown Central Catholic, 70-14, Friday night in a PIAA Class AAA state semifinal at Northeast High.

Desmon Peoples carried 12 times for 182 yards, and scored on runs of 2 and 77 yards.

Brandon Peoples rushed 10 time for 136 yards, and reached paydirt on first-quarter dashes of 7, 7, and 70.

Wood netted 368 of its 568 rushing yards in the first half and comfortably led, 41-14, at the break.

For ACC, South Carolinia-bound QB Brendan Nosovitch hit on 25 of 53 throws for 265 yards and two scores. In the first half, he was 23-for-42 for 240 yards.

The mercy rule kicked in early in the third quarter, following Nate Smith's 73-yard punt return and Joey Monaghan's conversion toss to tight end Colin Thompson.

Wood (13-1) reached the state final (versus District 3's Bishop McDevitt, 7 p.m. Friday at HersheyPark Stadium) for the first time since 2008. The Vikings were ousted in the semis in each of the last two seasons.
