Matakevich garners AAC defensive player of the week honor
Temple linebacker Tyler Matakevich closed the season with a 16-tackle performance against Tulane this past Saturday to earn the final American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor.
The junior linebacker also corralled three tackles for loss in Temple's 10-3 victory at Tulane. The victory helped the Owls, winners of two games last season, become bowl eligible at 6-6. They were not, however, selected for a bowl.
The Owls held the Green Wave to 266 yards on offense and held them to just two third-down conversions in 19 attempts.
Matakevich finished the season with 117 tackles – marking the third season in a row he has made 100 or more tackles. He also notched a league-high 88 solo tackles.
The Owls' top defender was also named Temple's Student-Athlete of the Week, Presented by Under Armour.
