Wood to remain with Sixers
The 76ers reached an agreement Wednesday with Christian Wood, enabling him to remain with the team for the rest of the season.
This was first reported by The Vertical.
The rookie power forward's second 10-day contract expired Tuesday. So the Sixers were forced to release him or sign him for the remainder of the season. However, it wasn't surprising that they decided to keep him since the season concludes next Wednesday at Chicago.
Wood has averaged 3.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 11 minutes in 16 appearances.
The 6-foot-11, 220-pounder made the Sixers' season-opening roster as an undrafted rookie free agent out of UNLV. The team waived him to make room for Elton Brand on Jan. 4. Wood then signed with the Sixers' NBA Development League team, the Delaware 87ers.
He signed a 10-day contract with the Sixers on March 4, but he was released to make room for Sunny Weems three days later. But the Sixers waived the seldom-used Weems and signed Wood to a second 10-day contract to add depth to their frontcourt depth on Easter Sunday.
Weems never really fit into the Sixers' long-term plans. They signed him as a way to reach the salary-cap floor and received credit for taking on his $2.8 million, full-season salary.
